New Entrance Ramp to Westbound I-90 Open
The new Tollway entrance ramp from Barrington Road to Westbound I-90 has been open since the fist of the year. Access to this entrance ramp is available from both northbound and southbound Barrington Road. Ramp toll collection equipment has been installed to provide cashless tolling with I-PASS or Pay Online lanes on the new ramps carrying traffic to the west. Cars with I-PASS will pay 45 cents and the cash rate is 90 cents for cars. Trucks tolls will range from $1.50 to $4.00 during daytime hours, with overnight discounts offered. Those without I-PASS can pay their tolls online at the cash rate within the seven-day grace period.
Remaining Work on Barrington Road Interchange
Construction of the new eastbound exit ramp remains to be done. Significant utility coordination and relocations slowed the pace of work in this area of the interchange. New pavement also needs to be completed on Barrington Road south of the bridge. Utility relocations have affected the schedule of this work to some degree. The sidewalk on the west side of Barrington Road along with new bicycle path on the east side have not been completed yet. This work will proceed once the ramp and pavement widening have been done. Finally roadway lighting, traffic signals, and traffic controls signs, including overhead directional signs on Barrington Road will be done towards the end of the interchange project. The Illinois Tollway is managing and overseeing the contractors' work. As updates are provided by the Tollway, information will be posted here.
Transit Components of the Barrington Road Interchange
In addition to the sidewalk and bicycle path being constructed with the interchange, the Village worked with Pace and the Illinois Tollway to incorporate new transit facilities into the interchange construction. Pace is building a new Park-n-Ride / Kiss-n-Ride to support the new express bus stops on I-90 just east of Barrington Road. Construction is also underway on a new pedestrian bridge over I-90 to link the express bus stops on the north and south sides of I-90. The pedestrian bridge is being done by the Illinois Tollway for Pace. Pace plans to begin construction of the Park-n-Ride / Kiss-n-Ride project at Barrington Road this summer. To link the transit stops with the parking and drop-ff areas, pedestrian access under the ramps on the east side of the interchange were completed with the interchange work. Pedestrians will walk at grade with the ramps passing over the top of the pedestrian way Pace's goal is to have the facilities open in the fall of 2017 to match the roll-out of expanded express bus service on I-90. Please see the transit information below for more information on the Pace services. Click the link below for an overview exhibit of all the changes at Barrington Road and I-90.
Pace Park-n-Ride & Expanding I-90 Bus Service
In December 2016, Pace added new express bus service along the Jane Addams Tollway (I-90) at the Randall Road Park-n-Ride. This route will be complemented by additional new bus services, including the Barrington Road express bus stops, to connect to Elgin, Schaumburg and the Chicago Transit Authority Blue Line Station in Rosemont, which links to downtown Chicago and O'Hare International Airport. Pace is building another Park-n-Ride at the IL 25 interchange. Information about these expanding services is available on the Pace website and via this link: Pace I-90 Market Expansion Program Brochure
In fall 2017, a new Express Bus Station, with a Park-n-Ride lot and Kiss-n-Ride access, will be provided at Barrington Road and I-90 in Hoffman Estates. Pace is exploring ways to provide shuttle service to the new Express Bus Station. Results from an analysis done last year are being evaluated and more information about the findings will be posted in coming months.
